Membership Goal reached in advance
(2004.8.04)
President Hyo-Woong Lee's aim of 2000 members
before Conference 2004 was reached several months early, according to
the membership rolls maintained by membership chair Min Chan Kyoo.
As
President Lee reported, “It took only fifteen and a
half months to reach this significant membership target.”
Asia TEFL was founded March 15, 2003.
In January President Lee set what many thought was an
unrealistic target of “2,000 members by
the November Conference.”
A new set of goals were immediately set by the President:
- The 1st goal is to have 5,000 members within three years from
now. The ultimate target number of members of Asia TEFL must be 100,000.
- The 2nd goal is to make the Asia TEFL conference a world-class
conference in terms of the number of participants and the quality of
presentations.
- The 3rd goal is to upgrade The
Journal of Asia TEFL as an internationally recognized journal
through recognition under AHCI (Arts and Humanities Citation Index).
- The 4th goal is to secure stable sources of funds of
US$200,000-300,000 a year to operate Asia TEFL without membership and
conference registration fees.
- The 5th goal is to provide teachers and professors with Asia TEFL
grants for joint research projects.
- The 6th goal is to help teachers and professors develop Tests of
English as a Foreign Langauge which can best assess English proficiency.
- The 7th goal is to help teachers and professors have more
cross-cultural understanding and to help them contribute to peace,
stability and prosperity to the Asian countries as well as to the rest
of the world.
